66 Irregular Migrants Arrested In Recent Police Crackdown

Malta’s police force has intensified its enforcement against irregular immigration, recently arresting 66 individuals who were found living in the country illegally.
A statement issued by the Malta Police Force revealed that 21 individuals were arrested following operations in Gwardamanġa, Santa Venera, Ħamrun and Ħ’Attard.
Other inspections in Marsa and Ħal Qormi led to the arrest of 23 irregular migrants.
Another 22 individuals were arrested yesterday evening in Marsa after days of police surveillance.
These 66 individuals were all detained on the basis of abuse to the immigration system in Malta.
“The nationalities of the irregular migrants include Syria, as well as some African countries,” the Police stated.
They revealed that the individuals are being held at a Detention Centre and they are in the process of being sent back to their countries of origin.
“Police investigations with regards to irregular migration are still ongoing. These actions are headed by different branches of the Police Corp, with the assistance of Detention Officers,” the statement read.
