6,852 New Drivers On Malta’s Roads This Year As Of October
Parliament has revealed that 6,852 people in Malta have been issued driving licenses in 2025 as of October, with 3,373 of them being Maltese citizens.
Unsurprisingly, the majority of new drivers went for the standard Category B license, with 5,086 people taking the wheel this year. Of these, 2,539 were Maltese.
Meanwhile, 775 people got a Category A license for motorcycles, with 459 Maltese citizens among them. For those aiming to drive heavier vehicles, 636 drivers received a Category C license, including 326 Maltese, and 355 people secured a Category D license for buses, of which just 49 were Maltese citizens.
The figures, tabled in Parliament by Minister Chris Bonett, also included a historical snapshot, showing license acquisition trends from 2021 to 2024, broken down by category and nationality.
With driving being such a key part of life on the islands, it’s clear that Malta continues to see a steady flow of new drivers hitting the roads every year.
