A Record-Breaking €7 Million Was Raised For This Year’s L-Istrina Fundraising Event
Last night saw the 20th Edition of Malta’s famed L-istrina charity fundraising event which raised (just over) an astonishing €7 million, beating last year’s record of €6.04 million.
This is a huge victory and sheer proof of what the Maltese community can achieve in the name of charity. Thousands of people did not bat an eye lid to open their hearts and wallets for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.
President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca expressed her gratitude by stating that there wasn’t an activity that somebody didn’t thank her for her work, she continued by saying that these thanks are not hers, but everyone’s because the work of the Malta Community Chest Fund is done through the people.
Lovin Malta was also present to donate €2,500 which our readers helped to raise for L-Istrina.
Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne said: “I know how it can be a trauma for their families. Funds are important, but it’s not just about finances. The fact there are thousands who feel moved enough to donate fills people with courage.”
Although Prime Minister Joseph Muscat was not present due to prior travel engagements, he made it very clear that he was there in spirit with a special televised video message.
“We cannot donate just to give, but we must give everything we’ve got,” Opposition Adrian Delia said.
