‘Am I Ok to Drive? Make it Home!’: Transport Malta Launches New Campaign
Transport Malta has launched a new road safety campaign as part of the initiative ‘Am I Ok to Drive? Make it Home!’
The campaign aims to raise awareness about responsible driving and reduce traffic accidents caused by reckless behaviour or driving under the influence of alcohol or substances.
This marks the start of a series of road safety campaigns, including the upcoming launch of the Malta Road Safety Code. These efforts are part of a broader strategy focusing on road users, vehicles, speed, road conditions, and post-accident care, aligned with the SAFE System principles.
Transport Minister Chris Bonett highlighted that, while Malta is among the safest countries in Europe, every life lost on the road is a tragedy.
Transport Malta CEO Kurt Farrugia emphasised that road safety is a shared responsibility, with the campaign focusing on public education, modern safety technologies, and enforcement to protect all road users.
Statistics from the European Road Safety Observatory show Malta has one of the EU’s lowest road fatality rates, with a 44% decrease in fatalities in 2024 compared to the previous year.
This initiative is in collaboration with Sedqa and the Authority for the Responsible Use of Cannabis.
