An animal hospital will soon be opened in Ta’ Qali, where a veterinary course will also be offered, ministers revealed.

The government, through the Ministry for Agriculture and the Ministry of Education, has entered into an agreement to reopen the Animal Hospital in Ta’ Qali. At the same time, starting from the next scholastic year, a veterinary course will be offered from this same building, Education Minister Clifton Grima and Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo announced in a press conference.

Last August, the APH Veterinary Hospital, which is the sole hospital of its kind in our country, stopped its services after extensive damage due to a power surge. This, in turn, damaged the equipment being used in the hospital.

During the conference, Refalo insisted that work to “remedy the situation at the Animal Hospital has not stopped” and that “our country will once again have an animal hospital from which veterinary services will be offered, including long-term animal care.”

Grima then took the stand to reveal that “now, all those who want to pursue a study in this field can do so in their own country.”

Up until now, there has been no institution in Malta that offers a veterinary course, and students who wish to delve into this field of study must do so overseas.

According to the Education Minister, a course catering to prospective veterinarians will be offered in the coming scholastic year.
