Another Child, Another Warning: Lee Bugeja Bartolo Demands Action On Pool Safety

Former PN MEP candidate Lee Bugeja Bartolo has renewed his call for pool safety barriers to be made mandatory, following a near-tragic incident involving a one-year-old child who was found unconscious in a pool in Gozo yesterday evening.
Just a few weeks ago, Bugeja Bartolo had publicly proposed the introduction of legal measures to require safety barriers around pools in Malta. His suggestion came in the wake of the death of six-year-old Zaylen, which had shocked the nation.
However, the idea was met with scepticism.
“Some said I was exaggerating. Some tried to ridicule the proposal,” Bugeja Bartolo wrote in a new Facebook post. “As we speak, doctors and nurses are battling to save the precious life of a one-year-old toddler. Who’s exaggerating now?”
The incident has prompted renewed public concern over pool safety in homes and short-let properties, with many calling for updated regulations and better enforcement.
The child’s current condition remains critical.
Do you agree with his proposal?
