A Somali man has been denied bail after court heard of his attempted rape of a Chinese masseuse.

The 22-year-old man had entered a Sliema massage parlour in Manuel Dimech street in Sliema on January 14th and requested a massage.

After paying €40 for the massage, Hussein Abudullahi Jama lay down for an hour-long massage.

Halfway through the massage, however, he sat back up and tried to place the Chinese masseuse onto the massage bed.

He then requested that she perform sex acts on him, and tried to force himself onto her on the bed.

When she refused, the masseuse said that he then turned to the door, locked it, ripped off her trousers and attempted to rape her.

Her leg was broken as she struggled to escape his grasp.

She testified in in court today, sitting in a wheelchair, surrounded by her family members. Inspector Mark Mercieca prosecuted.

Hussein Abudullahi Jama remains in custody.
