Earlier today, Infrastructure Malta submitted new plans for the development of a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Vjal l-Avjazzjoni’s dual carriageway.

This bridge will include additional space for any future amendments to the road. It will be 34 metres long and will be super useful for anyone who will be commuting around the Gudja area.

The proposal was presented to the Planning Authority and permission to build this structure later this year was requested alongside it.

There’s currently a call for offers for both the construction and design of this bridge which will be issued within a couple of weeks.

This overpass will include two seven metre structures and even access ramps for both pedestrians and cyclists. These ramps will be wheelchair accessible too. Of course, the aim is to provide easy access to public transport and to the Airport. Bidders are invited to propose innovative structures using environmentally-friendly materials.

This is not the only project that is currently underway to transform and upgrade the airway.

Vjal l-Avjazzjoni is also currently being widened to include a third lane and a cycle lane from the airport to Kirkop tunnels, Luqa, Qormi, Paola and Santa Luċija.

This upgrade is being done to facilitate access between Kirkop and Luqa and is also meant to reduce travelling time for those coming from the Safi, Żurrieq, Qrendi, Kirkop and Mqabba area.
