Birzebbuga Council Now Giving Out Information In Arabic
The Birzebbuga local council has added Arabic as a language, along with Maltese and English, on information flyers about waste collection hours it is distributing to households.
A picture on the flyer was posted on local Facebook forum The Salott, where it received a mostly positive reception.
“Interesting introduction of Arabic, but if there is a great number of Arabic-speaking people in Birzebbuga, it’s better safe than sorry,” one person said. “Pity the main title was not translated too. But kudos to the local council for making sure there is no excuse to keep the locality clean.”
“I think it’s a very good idea. Not everyone speaks Maltese or English,” someone else wrote.
A couple of people expressed their disappointment at the picture, warning it represents a step towards an Arab takeover of Malta, with one man also describing it as “the beginning of the end”.
Yet, some other people noted a more pressing problem in the leaflet than its inclusion of Arabic – namely the Birzebbuga council has not yet allotted a day for the collection of organic waste.
