Black Man Allegedly Refused Entry To Paola Public Toilet ‘Because He Would Dirty It’

A man of African origin was allegedly denied access to the public bathroom of Paola council earlier this morning, a witness has said. He was allegedly told that he would “dirty” the bathroom if he was let in after the attendant thought that he wanted to shower in a case that is being described as racial profiling.

A witness, a Maltese mother, saw a Maltese female attendant stop the victim and block him from using the male toilets while saying “ghax jhammgu”. The victim, who was said to be wearing business attire, asked the attendant if it was due to the colour of his skin, to which she replied: “you go up the road”.

The witness and her son defended the man’s rights by stating the attendant’s clear xenophobia was illegal and won’t be tolerated. This was followed by a heated verbal quarrel which finally led to the man being allowed entry into the public bathroom.

A formal complaint to the Paola local council was made by the female witness

Paola Vice Mayor Steven Axisa commented on social media that while he didn’t know what happened exactly, he had notified the secretary of the local council and the council would be looking into the case.

Axisa then made a comment saying people were not allowed to use the sink of the public bathroom to shower, continuing that he had spoken to the attendant himself, who told him that she had stopped people from trying to shower in the sinks.

To this, the mother publicly called him a liar.

In a comment on social media, she said: “Believe me on my word of honour, the minute she saw he is black, no entry”.

The Vice Mayor assured that the council would be looking into it, although others were not so convinced.

“You seriously have no idea what you are saying. Take a step back and stop the hole you are digging yourself,” the son said.

An official report was confirmed to have been made and the local council’s executive secretary said they would look into it, as well as check CCTV in the local area.
