Hundreds of taxi drivers and potentially thousands of commuters are going into the weekend fearing they’ll be severely affected after personal transportation company Bolt officially cut ties with the local branch of the company due to the previous management’s “indiscretions”.

In an official letter sent on Tuesday 23rd, members of TaxMal Ltd (which operated the Bolt franchise in Malta), explained what had happened.

“We regret to inform you that as of yesterday evening Bolt international has taken the decision to terminate its contract with our company TaxMal Limited with immediate effect due to the indiscretions of the previous management. We apologise for any problems this might cause to any of you. We would like to also take this opportunity [to thank you] (sic) for all the hard work that you have put into making the brand such a success over the past few years, it has been a pleasure serving you.”

As it stands, the service is still ongoing, however certain functions such as emailing the company have been put offline.

Speaking to Newsbook.com.mt, a spokesperson from Bolt said drivers are still being paid for their work and the company would still operate in Malta, possibly through the setting up of a local office.

The Bolt spokesperson claimed the termination of the dealings with TaxMal Limited happened because of a breach in their contract.

Bolt went on to assure both passengers and drivers that they would not be affected by these changes.

“All drivers will continue to receive payouts as usual,” the Bolt spokesperson finished. “It is important to note that Bolt Technology OU has always done payouts to drivers and will continue to do so.”

Bolt was formerly known as Taxify before changing its brandname in the last year.
