The sudden announcement comes following a scheduled meeting at Castille this morning

All permits for demolition and excavation have been temporarily suspended following a meeting between Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, the Malta Developers Association leading architects and various stakeholders in the construction industry.

Apart from the suspension of all permits, the Prime Minister ordered any ongoing excavation and demolition works to halt as of today until a “solution” can be found and a way forward can be agreed on.

The announcement was made during a meeting at Castille in Valletta today following the shocking building failure in Ħamrun this morning. This was the third building to suffer a failure or collapse in two months.

The latest failure has led to an uproar from the Maltese public, who are angry and scared that any building could suddenly collapse as the construction works have appeared in all corners of the island.

What do you think of this sudden halt to excavation and demolition works?
