The wife of George Degiorgio, one of the police’s main suspects in the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, entered the offices of PBS late last night to complain at the state broadcaster for revealing her husband’s name.

The incident was first reported on the blog of journalist-blogger Manuel Delia and confirmed to Lovin Malta by the PBS’ head of news Reno Bugeja.

“A black car rolled up outside PBS’ offices late last night, the suspect’s wife got out, entered the reception area and started complaining that her husband’s name was mentioned on the news,” he said. “PBS staff told her to wait but in the meantime called the police just in case the situation escalated.”

He said the other people inside the black car fled the PBS offices as soon as the Rapid Intervention Unit arrived on the scene. The police then took Degiorgio’s details and, according to Bugeja, dropped her off home.

PBS head of news Reno Bugeja downplayed the incident

Bugeja downplayed the incident as a regular occurrence at the offices of the national broadcaster.

“She didn’t act aggressively but just complained at our coverage…it was nothing out of this world, people come to our offices to complain on average every fortnight.”

George Degiorgio (nicknamed Ic-Ciniz) and his brother Alfred (nicknamed Il-Fulu) are amongst ten suspects who were arrested last night in connection with the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia. The police will prosecute them this evening following two days of interrogations.

The Times of Malta reported today that the police have electronic communication evidence, including triangulation data, which links the two brothers to the murder.

It is unknown at this stage whether police believe the suspects had masterminded the entire assassination themselves or whether they were working for someone else. Caruana Galizia had never written about either of the Degiorgio brothers, which appears to rule out the possibility they had killed her out of revenge.
