Charles Miceli, One Of Malta’s Foremost Anti-Poverty Campaigners, Dies Suddenly
One of Malta’s foremost anti-poverty activists Charles Miceli has unfortunately just died. A outspoken supporter of rights for the vulnerable in society, the man was well known for standing up for the downtrodden and ignored.
He had most recently been working on a campaign related to rent regulation and the rising cost of living in Malta.
He was 68 when he passed away.
An active leftist as well as an ex-journalist, he was a founder of the group Alleanza Kontra l-Faqar, and was known to get personally involved in cases of Maltese people who weren’t able to make ends meet during the month.
His death leaves a void in Maltese society, especially in the compassionate Left.
Many Maltese people expressed their shock and sadness at his sudden passing.
So saddened to learn that Charles Miceli,a principled and critical voice on the Left, passed away. In all our meetings,I felt challenged, but comforted that ours were genuine arguments between people sharing the same goals of social justice. Our thoughts are with Pauline&family -JM
