Cracks, Roofs & More: Malta Weather Page Posts 9 Helpful Tips To Prep For Islands’ First Rain
As Malta prepares for its first thunderstorm of the new rain season, a local weather page, Maltese Islands Weather, shared some helpful tips to help you prepare your house to prevent any damages that can be caused by Wednesday’s rain.
1. Fix any cracks in the walls and roof
Make sure to check if there are any cracks in the walls and even head up to your roof to prevent any damage in your house caused by the thunderstorm, better safe than sorry!
2. Check to see if your roof’s coating needs to be resealed
Head up to your roof and investigate if its coating needs to be resealed to make sure that the anticipated rain doesn’t enter your home.
3. Take a look at your gutters to make sure that they drain well
Yes, it might be one of those jobs that you keep on procrastinating to do but take a look at those gutters to make sure they drain well so your home doesn’t flood.
4. Check indoors for any signs of leakage
Take a deep look at your bedrooms, bathrooms, and any room that you have to check for any sign of leakage. If you do spot one, grab a bucket or two, you’re going to need them tomorrow.
5. Make sure that doors and windows seal properly
Don’t take those doors and windows for granted, check them twice to make sure that they close properly, especially wooden ones as they tend to contract in Malta’s hot summer.
6. Clear any gutters that take water away from your home
Even though you checked your own gutters, have a look at the ones that take the water away, and if there’s something in them, make sure to clear them ASAP.
7. Clear any debris around your home to prevent flooding and damage in strong winds
With strong thunderstorms, strong winds come into play, so clear any debris that you might have around your home to prevent any injuries.
8. Clean wells
Everything needs to be clean, even your wells. Take a peep at your wells and if you see something that might be blocking the rain from entering, take it out so the rain can easily pass through the well rather than your home.
9. Prepare a place to shelter animals
As you might be comfortable at home, wrapped in a blanket, and watching a Christmas film (no…it’s not too early) make sure to leave some type of shelter for animals that are in your neighbourhood so they can have some type of warmth too while the storm hits the islands.
