Heard from a number of areas all around Gozo, the explosion happened metres away from a block of apartments…
A grass fire in a field near apartment blocks in Marsalforn sparked a gas cylinder explosion and a subsequent larger fire just metres away from people’s houses.
The explosion happened after the dry grass fire spread to a small room in the area known as Qolla Sofra, the members of the Civil Protection Department were quickly on site to fight the large fire that ensued.
Due to broken glass as a result of the explosion (which is said to have been heard across Malta’s sister island), Net News reported that a woman suffered some light injuries. A young girl was reportedly also taken to Gozo’s General Hospital to be treated for shock. At the time of writing, however, no exact details have been confirmed.
As another day of very hot weather continues to hit the islands, members of the CPD told Times of Malta that the department has been very busy putting out similar grass fires in other areas like Selmun and Miżieb.
