A delicate rescue operation is currently underway in the Birgu pjazza after a worker fell into a hole in a construction site that leads to a reservoir.

Photos sent to Lovin Malta show the heavy police presence in the area, along with at least one ambulance and fire engine.

Police confirmed the incident happened at around 4:20pm on Triq Misraħ il-Belt Vittoriosa. The worker’s identity or condition could not be confirmed yet as the delicate operation is still underway.

Eyewitnesses told Lovin Malta that they spotted an official taking down a helmet, presumably to help the person stuck underground.
