Did Someone Say Notte Bianca? Take A Look At What’s Happening On The 7th October!

It’s the initial week of October, and you find yourself outside your workplace, contemplating your plans for the upcoming weekend. After scrolling for a bit, you stumble upon a snippet providing a glimpse into an October event in Malta: Notte Bianca!

Whether you’re a parent eager to get your child away from their tablets or you’re just really tired of going to the same bar every weekend, Notte Bianca is a great way to get you out of that funk through the colourful performances, installations and tours of some of Valletta’s hidden marvels.

Here are a few highlights from four of the seven routes forming part of this year’s edition of Notte Bianca:

Music Route

Music is the heart and soul of this year’s Notte Bianca. This route is made for whoever is looking to make their ears swoon with a variety of genres.

Highlights from the route include Brass House Unit who will be taking over Castille Square, and Tribut lil Charles is-City Gatt, a tribute performance by Paul Giordimaina, Harry Eddelston, Luke Briffa and Nadine Axisa to veteran jazz artist “Is-City”.

BTW, here’s an inside scoop, stay tuned to Notte Bianca’s social media page on Monday 25th September as this year’s guest artists on the main stage are finally revealed.

Kids Route

The kids route is the way to go for families itching for an outing that’s entertaining and educational for children and parents alike. One of our personal favourites is the aptly named Notte – Vrumm Vrumm at Upper Barrakka Gardens, an interactive journey through Malta’s colourful transport history with activities tied to the iconic buses that have dotted every postcard since the eye-catching versions we know of today were introduced in 1970.

Our second recommendation for this route is TRASH.

Despite having the association with our favourite morning chore, TRASH is an energetic show about the possibilities of recycling through percussion, movement and humour and takes place in a fictitious garbage recycling centre, where four imaginative workers give new uses to all kinds of waste that arrives at the place, making audiences reflect on the excess of consumerism in our society.

Red Route

For those who are leaving the kids at home, Notte Bianca has the red route. This red hot path around Valletta is the sauciest Notte Bianca route with somewhat Not Safe For Work performances in some of the capital city’s most notorious locations.

This includes Dar id- Dejqa, a ravishing cabaret experience by Udjenza featuring the sinful, absurd and seductive performances by circus artist Matthias Camilleri, magician Gwilym Bugeja, burlesque performer Undine LaVerve and songstress Analise Mifsud led by Drag Madame Chucky Bartolo.

The red route also includes Hot Club, a tantalising performance of music led by Malta’s most seductive string performer George Curmi “Il-Pusé.”

Theatre Route

Last but not least, the theatre route ranges from comedy with Taħt Tliet Tronġiet, an interpretation of three of Malta’s former rulers which takes place in Hastings Gardens.

Our second recommendation for this route is Il-Pranzu, an immersive experience that celebrates Maltese cuisine while inviting the audience to laugh at its eccentricities, taking place at various times throughout the evening in Sala San Duminku.

Notte Bianca takes place once a year for one night only. Head over to Valletta on the 7th October. Activities kick off at 4pm and last until 1am.
