Disturbing Amount Of Litter Found Opposite Paceville Development: ‘This Is What Awaits Rich Investors Around The Corner’

Cleanliness might not be the very first thing many people think of when the subject of Paceville is brought up, but a post shared on Facebook earlier today has brought the worrying state of some areas in the heart of St. Julian’s to the forefront.

Vocal environmentalist and MEP candidate Camilla Appelgren took to Facebook to post three photos of a disturbing amount of litter found near the luxurious Pendergardens development in St. Julian’s.

“Opposite the “progress” project of PenderGardens in the heart of St Julian’s which is intended to lure the rich investors to the island, this is what awaits them around the corner,” Appelgren said.

The litter is mostly made up of beer cans and plastic bottles that were probably left on the ground as people drank in the streets before heading to the clubs in the vicinity.

The area is constantly littered with empty drink bottles and plastic cups, and continues to grow as a busy centre for nighttime entertainment. As plans to develop the area continue to be set in place, Camilla noted that, while the litter has allegedly been there “for ages”, that doesn’t really take away from the fact that “maintaining city centres is the core of waste management”.

The post got a wide variety of reactions, from people condemning the shocking sight, to others pointing out how this was the result of other issues, such as lack of bins and skips in the area.

As the population continues to grow, it is essential to ensure that proper waste management is put into place. However, it must also be said that a stronger level of care and awareness needs to be fostered amongst the Maltese population in order to avoid further sites such as this.
