Two men were arrested after Irish authorities intercepted a cocaine shipment weighing about 20 tonnes, valued at around €21 million, aboard a Malta-registered ship.

The seizure occurred on a ship at Shannon Estuary port in Ireland on Tuesday.

The accused, Kamen Petkov, 35, and Nikola Yordanov Penchev, 32, crew members of the MV Verila, face charges of cocaine possession and intent to sell or traffic.

Four other men linked to the case were arrested but released.

The court assigned legal aid lawyers to the accused, who did not request bail.
