Eesh! Malta Drops 19 Places For Quality Of Life Expat Insider’s 2018 Ranking

Malta has gone from ranking 19th place to 38th place in the Quality of Life Index from the Expat Insider 2018 list, making it the biggest loser in the whole list of 68 countries.
Although 96% of expats ranked the islands favourably for weather, only 69% said they were satisfied with the island’s social and leisure activities (compared to 76% in 2017).
Taiwan, Portugal and Spain topped 2018’s overall list for quality of life. On the other end of the spectrum, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait brought the rear.

“The horrendous corruption in every aspect of governance is appalling”
56% of expats have reviewed Malta’s current political stability (63% being the global rating), while the rest expressed how negatively the political situation directly affects them on the whole.
“Corruption seems endemic at all levels of society,” a UK expat said of Malta, and a resident from Ireland reported that “the horrendous corruption in every aspect of governance is appalling”.
The peacefulness of Malta was also put into question, as 18% of foreigners felt unsafe.
The results are based on researchers having asked 18,135 expats from 178 countries to rate 48 different categories linked to aspects of abroad living on a scale of 1-7.
