Elderly Swieqi Man Fighting For Life After Suspected Gas Leak Explosion
An 80-year-old man from Swieqi is currently fighting for his life at Mater Dei hospital after sustaining burns earlier today in an explosion, likely caused by a gas leak.
At around 7am, police were called for assistance near a garage in Triq Qantar in Swieqi.
Police immediately convened at the location, and from preliminary investigations, they confirmed that an 80-year-old Swieqi resident suffered burns after an explosion, which police attributed to a “probable gas leak.”
The man was given medical assistance and transported to Mater Dei via ambulance, where his condition was certified as serious.
Members from the Civil Protection Department (CPD) were also called in for assistance.
Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici has ordered an inquiry into the matter. Meanwhile, police investigations are currently ongoing.
