A 77-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by a van in Qormi earlier today.

Police were informed of the incident which took place at 1.45pm In Triq Isqof Scicluna.

Initial investigations revealed the woman, who lived in Żebbuġ, was hit by a van driven by a 34-year-old man, resident in Birgu.

A medical team together with police went immediately to the scene to assist but unfortunately the woman was certified dead on site.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud is leading an inquiry while police investigations are ongoing.
