Enemalta CEO Sacked During Hellish Power Cuts Transferred To New Government Role
After former Enemalta CEO Jonathan Cardona was sacked from his position amidst persistent power cuts in a hellish heatwave, he has now been transferred to yet another top government role.
The Shift News reported earlier today that Cardona is back to serving his former government role selling Golden Passports, a position he previously fulfilled until 2021.
He was fired from his position at Enemalta earlier this summer after a series of nation wide power cuts sparked controversy all over the island with locals demanding compensation for business losses and inconveniences.
The nation had ended up essentially paralysed by the terrible blackouts combined with the rising temperatures, with many deaths reportedly linked to the heat wave and lack of access to cooling systems.
The action is said to have been ordered by Prime Minister Robert Abela in reaction to the power outages in Malta and Gozo.
Cardona was reportedly paid €160,000 annually when Energy Minister Miriam Dalli named him the CEO of Enemalta in October 2021.
Cardona spent two years in his role as CEO of Enemalta, which came after he overlooked the government agency responsible for the cash-to-passports scheme – and he’s now back to managing the controversial scheme.
