‘Failure Of Malta’s Laws’: Roberta Metsola On Kusi Dismark’s Imminent Deportation

Many, including European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, have taken to social media to express their disapproval of the imminent deportation of Ħamrun barber Kusi Dismark, who is expected to be sent back to Ghana today, despite having spent 13 years living and integrating in Malta.
Earlier today, Metsola posted a statement on X saying, “Kusi Dismark has spent 13 years in Malta. He works, he’s integrated, he has friends and studied here. He proudly calls Malta his home. His life is here.”
“Deporting him now, just to make a political point, would be a failure of Malta’s laws, a failure of leadership & of our humanity,” Metsola continued.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri has asserted that this decision is “fair”, highlighting that numerous individuals in comparable circumstances had voluntarily departed the country.
In comments to Lovin Malta, Camilleri insisted that the Ghanaian man had entered Malta irregularly and opted not to comply with orders from the authorities to depart the country.
“If we believe in fair migration policies, we shouldn’t make a difference between people,” he said.
In the meantime, a protest, coordinated by the migrant community and supported by NGOs such as ADITUS and Moviment Graffitti, is scheduled for Sunday – just two days following the reported deportation of the man.
The demonstration aims to secure the immediate release of Kusi and advocate for an end to government raids leading to the apprehension and potential deportation of law-abiding migrant community members.
