‘For The Sake Of Balance’: Jon Mallia To Only Invite Non-PNPL Candidates On Podcast Ahead Of Next Month’s Elections
In the midst of a record-breaking round of MEP Elections full of independent and non-PNPL candidates, Jon Mallia has said he will not invite any candidates from the two major political parties on his popular podcast.
“Mainstream media has always pushed aside candidates who are not from PN or PL, and that definitely won’t change throughout this campaign,” Mallia wrote on social media yesterday. “And this is despite the fact that a third of the electorate, nearly 100,000 people, said they’re not interested in voting for either the PN or the PL. And the number of independent candidates who have put their name in for the MEP election is an absolute record.”
“The Podcast has therefore decided that, in the coming weeks, only candidates who don’t belong to either the PN or the PL are interviewed. At least this way, some of the imbalance is reduced.”
“I will therefore leave it in your hands to tell me which candidates you’d like me to invite,” Mallia continued. “The three most requested candidates until Saturday will be sent an invite. The discussions will start next week.”

Mallia’s status has already received nearly 300 comments, with many suggesting a number of candidates across the political spectrum. At the time of writing and at a cursory glance, James Ryder, Arnold Cassola and Conrad Borg Manché seem to be among the most requested candidates.
Just week, a new political survey conducted by IDEA Group’s Malta Survey found that three MEP candidates who aren’t contesting with PL or PN made it into the top 10 of people’s first preference votes.
What do you make of Mallia’s announcement, and who would you like to see invited on his podcast?
