Former MP Shows Off His Kill And Draws Wrath Of Labour MEP
Former Labour MP Bertu Pace is clearly a proud and dedicated hunter, as this picture he uploaded from a recent hunting holiday to Romania shows.
Pace, who was recently employed as a consultant for then- animal rights parliamentary secretary Roderick Galdes, posted a photo on Facebook of himself by a truck laden with dead quails.
“After two hours hunting ducks, they took us [to hunt] quails. There were a couple, weren’t there?”
The photo received the thumbs-up from other hunters, but Labour MEP Marlene Mizzi – a vocal proponent of animal rights – soon stepped in to have her say.
“What a shameful photo! Enjoy your activity if you must, but you don’t have to show everyone how much fun you had killing these creatures,” she said.
Pace responded that quails are caught in their millions across Europe, to which Mizzi insisted he shouldn’t have shown his kill to the public.
“Did you have to show them? Let’s start showing photos of our abattoirs too – showing the killing of pigs and cows too – just because they are also killed in their millions! Come on, Bert…” she said.
Mizzi then got into a Facebook tit for tat with a certain Daniel Azzopardi, who called her out for hypocrisy by questioning why she doesn’t similarly criticise people for uploading pictures of fish they had just caught or plates of meat.
“I think a picture of a plate of meat is different than a picture of dead animals. Maybe they’re the same thing for you, but not for me,” she responded.
Bertu Pace hit the news last year after he was suspended from his government consultancy position in the wake of a police investigation into a planning permit which had been issued to his daughter for the construction of a villa outside development zones in Siggiewi.
