From Village Feasts To Viral Clips: How Malta Keeps Its Charm In A Fast World

While everything moves at pace these days, Malta manages to retain a lot of its charm. It remains a peaceful, relaxing place with a mix of English and Italian-ness. Not only that, but although Malta is small, there’s a huge variety in the culture and scenery that’s available. Better still, the weather is great all year round, even when it’s winter. Essentially, you can find balmy winters and warm summers suitable for all tourists’ wants and needs.

Calm and quiet

One thing to note about Malta is that it is densely populated. However, despite having so many people in a small space, Malta surprisingly doesn’t feel like this is the case. Instead, it manages to feel quiet and somehow not too crowded at the same time. Better still, it’s still got that more social atmosphere, which means there’s plenty to do and see. Depending on where in Malta you’re staying, there’s some pretty exciting nightlife too.

So, if you want somewhere away from the crowds, there are quaint pubs and quiet wine bars, while for those looking for the opposite, there’s plenty to enjoy. One option is to avoid the crowds and head to Gozo. Taking a ferry here means getting off the main island to the second-largest one in the Maltese archipelago. It’s only got 30,000 inhabitants too and all the people on the island know how to have fun.

Growing economy

Another reason Malta has remained charming and popular when it comes to visitors, is the fact that it has a growing economy. In fact, it’s one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. With a 5.6% GDP growth, it’s easily a solid option for businesses and expats to enjoy. Impressively, this simply helps to boost the economy and standard of living, making Malta an even more popular place to stay. Part of this growth is helped by the low tax rates in comparison to many other countries. As such, Malta is a great place for investors and businesses to set up shop.

Having fun

As mentioned, there are plenty of places to go and have fun when in Malta. For one, there are clubs, pubs and bars no matter where you are staying on the island. This makes it very easy to get some nightlife wherever you are.

“Malta is also very forward-thinking when it comes to the latest technologies. For instance, there is a strong use of blockchain technology. Not only does this help businesses, but it also furthers other forms of technology. And speaking of other technologies, Malta has a lot going on in the online world. Digital nomads can enjoy reliable WiFi and broadband access for remote working and visitors can easily check a wide variety of games, including lotto results from across the globe, which can be accessed online when on the island.”

History and culture

Another major part of Malta’s charm is that it is so diverse. There’s a wide array of different people living here and a language that sounds partly like Arabic. The country is a collection of islands in the Mediterranean that has a long history. For one, the eight islands (only three are populated), have been civilised for around 5000 years. Over the centuries, the islands have been visited by Phoenicians, the Greeks, the Romans and the Byzantines. Additionally, Arabs and Normans have visited too, thanks to the strategic position it holds. However, it was the Knights of St John that left the biggest mark, ruling the islands from 1530 to 1798. There are signs of all the different cultures that have come through, all found in the different architecture found around the island.

Valetta, the capital, is a fortified city and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Elsewhere, you can enjoy a wide array of different cultural spots, including the three cities where you can see Europe’s biggest natural port from the Upper Barrakka Gardens. The three cities themselves, Vittoriosa (Birgu), Cospicua and Senglea, are all visible from this vantage point as well. Visiting each or all of these cities provides an array of different cultural viewpoints of the country and its history.
