Marsaskala’s former waste treatment plant is set to be radically transformed into a recreational green space, plans submitted to the Planning Authority have revealed.

The regeneration plans – submitted by WasteServ and teased in a render published today – shows how the 23,800-square-metre space will include everything from mature trees and water bodies to various educational facilities and an underground parking lot with an e-park and ride.

The site of the Sant’ Antnin plant – which shut down most of its operations back in December 2022 – lies next to an existing family park in Marsaskala, with these regeneration plans set to presented for public consultation as part of the permitting process. After this process, the Planning Authority’s final consideration will be the final step before the former waste treatment plant can be turned into the recreational green space.
