Force 10 Gusts And ‘Phenomenal’ Waves To Batter Malta This Christmas Week
Malta is set to be hit with “severe mistral gale winds” this Christmas week, sparking ferry cancellations and fears of ruined plans.
Malta Weather reported that heavy winds are expected this weekend and the subsequent week, earlier today, with gusts reaching up to 100kmh with winds Force 7 to 8, gusting up to 10. This onslaught of winds is said to be accompanied by rain and potential hail.
With winds moving in from the north-west, coastal towns such as Marsalforn and Ġnejna Bay have been warned of “phenomenal waves.”
As a result, Virtu Ferries announced that scheduled trips on Friday from 6pm onwards are cancelled, with tomorrow’s operations happening as planned. However, due to the unpredictable nature of the incoming weather, further cancellations are possible.
Commuters are urged to stay updated with any respective travel companies’ social media for any potential schedule changes and weather updates.
