Michelle Muscat, the wife of Malta’s Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, is set to swim 14 kilometres around Malta today in aid of the Marigold Foundation.

Muscat’s annual swim has become an event in its own right, with this year being the fifth year in a row that she has taken on the challenge. Social media was full of well-wishers who expressed their support ahead of the swim, with NGOs reminding everyone of the good cause behind the challenge.

“The big day has arrived! The Marigold Foundation is truly proud of Michelle Muscat and her amazing commitment towards our biggest annual fundraiser! Through her four swimming challenges we have managed to collect enough funds to continue supporting the many NGOs and organisations who do sterling work in our society. Thank you to all those who have supported us since day one and continue to do so especially during the swim. Please donate and support a formidable woman in her 5th swimming challenge – 14 km of non-stop swimming all for a good cause. Go Michelle Go!” the Marigold Foundation said in a post today.

This year’s swim is under the ‘Tail’s End’ theme since she will be swimming around the tail end of Malta. Her challenge is raising funds to continue raising awareness on issues such as breast cancer, mental health, and autism.
