A Gozitan police constable is expected to be charged with drug possession after being caught with six sachets of cocaine during a football match last Sunday.

The 21-year-old, who was reportedly stationed at the Qawra Police Station, was arrested during a match between Nadur Youngsters and Xewkija Tigers at the Gozo football stadium.

It was also reported that the man “immediately resigned” from the police force after being arrested.

Sources said the 21-year-old was off-duty at the time of his arrest, and had been among supporters watching the match

The youth was seen entering a toilet, where police officers followed him. The youth was arrested inside the toilet, where he allegedly attempted to resist arrest by saying he was a policeman himself, and shouldn’t be arrested by his colleagues.

Following a search on his person, he was removed from the stadium and had his vehicle searched. Police officers then searched his residence for further evidence.
