A PL Gżira councillor has warned that the council has been reporting an abandoned car occupying a public parking space for the past seven months, yet no action has been taken.

Last September, Ryan Sciberras published a photo of the car and its license plate, which by then had already expired over a year ago. He said the council had been reporting the car to the authorities for several months but no action has been taken.

“This is unacceptable, because my councillor colleagues and I are working to be the voice of the people of Gżira,” he said. “Situations like this, that unfortunately aren’t addressed in a timely manner, cast a negative impression on us due to a lack of action.”

Today, Sciberras told Lovin Malta that the car still hasn’t been removed and warned that the situation defines how local councils don’t have any enforcement powers.

He said the council first reported the car on 30th July and has since sent several reminders to Transport Malta, LESA and other enforcement authorities.

“I have forgotten the amount of emails I have sent, even from our council’s e-mail account. Sometimes we receive an email of acknowledgement but unfortunately no reply.”
