Buġibba Hammer-Attacker Arrested Again After Breaking Bail Conditions A Day After Being Freed

A 33-year-old Maltese woman who attacked a mother and son in Buġibba has been remanded in custody after breaking her bail condition just one day after being released from custody.

Charlene Gatt, who was given bail just yesterday after denying the various violent charges against her, was found in Buġibba today by police officers. It is believed she was found near the residence of the mother that she had attacked.

As a result, the Maltese police force hauled her back to court where she was charged with breaking her bail conditions. She will now most probably face prison time.

In her defence, Ms Gatt said that she didn’t exactly understand the bail conditions set for her

Her conditions included not approaching her victim, nor the St. Paul’s Bay area, as well giving in a personal guarantee of €10,000.

Her case is a prime example of the efficient and effective bail mechanism employed in Malta, with Gatt barely out for 24 hours before being taken into custody for her bail-breaking decisions.

Charlene Gatt had attacked a mother and her son in Buġibba as well as damaged vehicles and harassed residents who live in her road in Buġibba.

Following the attack, which she denied committing, she was also ordered to sign three times a week at a police station, as well as stay at home between the hours of 7pm and 7am as part of her bail conditions.
