Health Directorate Urges People Not To Consume Ginger & Lemon Pistachios Or Cock Brand Fried Garlic
The Environmental Health Directorate just issued a health and safety warning for two separate products.
30 gram packets of pistachios labelled “Pistacchi sgusciati aromatizzati zenzero e limone,” described as “Unshelled Pistacchio kernels with ginger and lemon flavour,” have been reported to contain high levels of Aflatoxins.
Deriving from two species of the Aspergillus fungus, the contaminant can lead to a variety of negative health effects in humans. The contamination can occur before or after harvest, typically hastened and worsened by hot and humid areas.
People are urged not to consume products matching the description with the following details:
- Those with expiry date of 1st June 2025 and lot no. 24CPC08
- As well as those best before 31st May 2025 and lot no. 24CMC14
On top of this, the Directorate also issued a separate warning related to Cock Brand Fried Garlic.
Any products fitting the description, with lot no. 2403172 that have a best before date of 3rd May 2025 and 100g weight, have been flagged for potentially contaminated by Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons.
The contaminant in question is known to be a carcinogenic, typically mixing in with food during the production stage from any additives or other products.
