Help Us Help: This Dedicated Maltese Team Helps Desperate Sanctuaries Raise Money For Strays

From the 40 cats that were at risk of being homeless to charity book fairs and even delivering treats like luncheon meat to hungry strays, a new organisation has dedicated itself to supporting Maltese charities in the best way possible.

Help Us Help (HUH) is one of Malta’s latest voluntary organisations that helps sanctuaries raise money for the island’s strays.

And behind it, it’s a team of four, dedicating their free time to organise fundraisers for all sanctuaries in Malta, be it for cats, dogs, horses or other animals.

Volunteering to help a local sanctuary actually takes a lot more time and investment than most people think; from feeding resident animals, cleaning pens and cages, administration of medication, taking animals to the vet and liaising with fosterers.

And that is definitely not all, as funds are generally low and donations scarce. However for volunteers to organise fundraising events, is proving to be a difficult, time-consuming feat.

This is exactly where HUH comes in.

Meet Sarah, Stephania, Abigail, and Daniela, the four women who organise fundraising events, all working hand in hand and making the best of their characters.

To date, they have organised a couple of successful activities with another just around the corner on the 9th February, and helped a nice number of sanctuaries and feeders with food vouchers, vet bills, admission fees as well as food collections.

They all have their role in the team and work nonstop to reach their goals. They do this without any form of profit to themselves, except for the fact that at the end of the day, they would have helped a fraction of these homeless animals.

So, how do they help out?

With their rich background in volunteering, feeding, and fostering, they know the needs the local shelters go through.

This combined with Daniela’s need to scrutinise everything down to the smallest detail and her infamous, assertive way of dealing with venue owners makes her the unofficial manager of the team.

On the other hand, Stephania’s creativity doesn’t stop her from photographing events, visiting sanctuaries to film and photograph the animals, but most importantly, with all the patience of a saint, preparing special mementos, for each and every guest at HUH events, because we believe in showing gratitude to kind people who donate and help us help.

Sarah, being a people person, is the woman behind the team’s PR. She is the one who liaises with sponsors, greets guests, and forgets her duties because she would be lost in a deep conversation in the middle of the crowd.

That leaves Abigail, who is the complete opposite of Sarah, and a self-proclaimed introvert. Abigail is more comfortable discussing needs with sanctuary volunteers and working out event logistics.

Her experience and background as a vet nurse plunge her directly into contact with vets and volunteers and makes it easier for her to target the needs of a fundraiser. One would normally find her running around during an event, making sure everything is smooth sailing.

Help Us Help have one goal. That is to help all local shelters, but in order to be successful in all this, they need your help.
