Popular chef and restauranteur Daniel Grech has thanked the Maltese public for their support as he recovers in hospital from a hernia.

The Burgers.Ink chef, who is unable to walk properly, posted a photo standing up in a hospital robe today in a status thanking hospital staff, saying they need to be praised more for their work.

“Finally standing up again.
Thanks to each and everyone of you who wished me well.
God bless you guys. And thanks to all the nurses and doctors too. Not just here but all over the world.
These people are true heroes and people who should be praised more,” he said an hour ago.

Speaking to Lovin Malta, Daniel explained how he ended up in hospital so suddenly.

“I had planned to visit the hospital in a few months because of the hernia, but I ended up going to emergency this week. It worsened very fast because I had acid spreading in my stomach, and even though I knew I had a problem I kept taking medicine that ended up making it worse,” he told Lovin Malta.

He had uploaded a photo a few days ago after his emergency hospitalisation

Though he’s bedridden, he only had words of praise for the hospital food he’s been eating

Grech’s been dining on “chicken and vegetables, and strawberry jelly as well”, which he said was good.

He is set to leave hospital today, and has been ordered to stay in bed for the next week until he recovers and will be getting house visits from nurses until then.

The chef, who is opening a new restaurant next week, hopes to be able to walk and return to the kitchen as soon as he can.
