Husband Thanks Supporters As Fundraiser For Comatose Wife Hits €70,000
A crowdfunding campaign for Tonamol Baby, a 28-year-old nurse who has been in a coma since a tragic car accident on 16th July, has raised over €70,000 within just two days.
The accident occurred as she was crossing the road to begin her shift at Mount Carmel Hospital in Attard. At five months pregnant, Tonamol lost her unborn child and sustained severe head injuries, necessitating emergency brain surgery and ongoing care at Mater Dei Hospital.
Her husband, Tom Jacob, 34, who works as a sommelier with the db Group, has been by her side daily, hoping for signs of recovery.
An update has been added to the fundraiser page for Tona Baby, sharing heartfelt thanks to supporters after reaching the campaign’s goal.
The message expresses deep gratitude for the overwhelming generosity, noting that the fundraising target was met within just two days, far sooner than expected. It highlights that the support has provided not only financial assistance but also strength, hope, and faith for Tona and her family.
The update concludes by asking supporters to continue keeping Tona in their prayers, emphasising that their blessings and good wishes are invaluable on her journey toward recovery.
He launched the fundraising campaign to cover the €50,000 cost of transferring Tonamol back to their home state of Kerala, India, for continued medical treatment and to be surrounded by family.
The funds will cover a €20,000 medical air ambulance and €30,000 for hospital and rehabilitation expenses.
He works at Aki Malta (part of the DB Group), and his wife was with Healthmark, both companies showing their support by donating €2,500 each to the fundraiser.
The overwhelming support from the community has provided renewed hope for the couple during this challenging time.
