The Police Force discovered an illegal taxidermy operation in the Ta’ ?awhar area in Safi on Saturday.
Members from the Administrative Law Enforcement discovered 12 bird carcasses, some of which appeared to be freshly-killed, and others which belonged to protected species like Honey Buzzards, the Malta Independent has reported.
Two men were found in connection to the operation. It is being reported that the pair are a father and son who are avid hunters known to the police due to previous crimes, though police sources were unable to confirm this to Lovin Malta.
Officers found the pair by accident – they had been called to the area to investigate reports of illegal hunting
As they patrolled the area investigating the reports of illegal hunting, they reportedly came across the two men preparing a number of freshly-killed bird carcasses. The carcasses were being prepared to be made into displays to be mounted.
Police told Lovin Malta that the two men had been spoken to by the officers on the scene, but were not kept under arrest. The find was led by inspector Eliot Magro, a recent transfer to the leadership of the ALE section.
