In Photos: Five Divers Rescued Off Żurrieq Coast Amidst ‘Extremely Dangerous’ Weather Conditions
Civil Protection Malta has shared a number of dramatic photos from a search and rescue operation which had to be launched earlier today after five divers found themselves in need of “urgent assistance” near Blue Grotto.
“An SAR (search and rescue) operation was launched and CPD assets were deployed from Fire Station 1 and 5,” CPD wrote of the SAR operation off the coast of Żurrieq. “Four of the divers were rescued and brought to shore by the CPD Rhib, Delta 2, while one diver was rescued by an Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) air asset.”

Police had told Lovin Malta that a report on the divers had come in at around noon today, with members of the Red Cross Marine Unit requesting the assistance of the AFM.
“The Civil Protection Malta would like to thank The Malta Police Force, Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) and the Mater Dei Hospital Emergency Department for their assistance,” the statement finished.
Earlier today, the Malta Red Cross issued multiple Double Red Flag warnings on “high winds along various beaches on the coast of Malta”, highlighting “extremely dangerous conditions” and even saying a number of beaches including Għajn Tuffieħa and Fond Għadir were “closed for swimming”.
