In Photos: Malta Unites To Honour Memory Of Daphne Caruana Galizia
Hundreds filled the streets of Valletta to honour the memory of the Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia on the seventh anniversary of her assassination, yesterday evening.
In remembrance of the events that transpired on 16th October 2017, which saw the unfortunate death of Daphne Caruana Galizia as a result of a deliberate car bomb explosion, a massive crowd of people joined together to pay tribute to the late journalist.
Among the family of Caruana Galizia, friends and supporters to the cause, the turnout also saw the attendance of public figures such as Opposition Leader Bernard Grech and Deputy Leader of the House of Representatives Claudette Buttigieg.
“Seven years ago the assassination shook not just our country, but the entire world,” Grech stated in a Facebook post, “It wasn’t acceptable that day, and it’s not acceptable now that journalists have to feel threatened and furthermore, assassinated, because of the work they do.”
Buttigieg joined the call for justice by saying, “Seven years without justice – we are surrounded by courage, do not give up!”
Local activist organisations Occupy Justice Malta and Repubblika, not only aided in the organisation of the occasion but also participated in the peaceful protest, reinforcing their ongoing call for justice in the Caruana Galizia case.
