A tragic end to a teenager’s day at the beach this evening was thankfully avoided thanks to the swift response of a number of emergency services and the quick thinking of one man who rush to her aid even before they arrived.

The incident, which happened at around 7pm today in Qawra, saw a 19-year-old woman being involved in drowning incident. Photos sent to Lovin Malta moments after the shocking events unfolded showed the scene, with a number of beachgoers watching on as their Wednesday evening swim took a terrible turn.
Thankfully, however, the coordinated effort of the Malta Red Cross team, along with the A&E department, the Civil Protection Department and the Malta Police Force saw a joint effort which eventually saved the teen. But as Malta Red Cross wrote in their celebratory post later tonight, there was also one particular bystander who deserved to be congratulated too.
