Two beaches in Gozo, Mġarr ix-Xini and Xwejni Bay, have been cleared of deckchairs and umbrellas that had been erected there without a necessary permit.

The Malta Tourism Authority said that its enforcement officials swooped down on the bay and confiscated the illegal deckchairs and umbrellas this morning.

“We won’t allow this type of illegal behaviour to take place in any public bay in Malta and Gozo,” the MTA said.

Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi said enforcement on public beaches is crucial to safeguard the tourism sector.

“Today’s enforcement shows that the MTA won’t accept any illegal behaviour on our islands,” said Mizzi. “We will soon ramp up our enforcement efforts to ensure that everyone is in full conformity with the law and their permits.”
