Ir-Rokna, One Of Malta’s Favourite Family Restaurants, To Close Down Tomorrow Evening
Ir-Rokna, known as the oldest pizzeria in Malta, and beloved for its reliability and great pizzas, will be closing down tomorrow evening.
The announcement was made by Andre Camilleri, whose family had run the place for over four decades. Speaking “with great sadness and disbelief”, Camilleri announced the end of one of Malta’s most consistently popular restaurants.
“OK – this is far from an easy announcement for me to make. As most of you probably know, a few months ago I had stepped out from working at Ir-Rokna after managing it for over 20 years alongside my brother Jacques Camilleri, our dear colleague Brian, great uncles and rest of the family. I only chose to do so solely to pursue my dreams and open up my very own Mexican eatery.”

“With great sadness and disbelief I would like to inform everyone that Rokna will be closing down their doors for ever tomorrow evening after an amazing journey which lasted an amazing 45 years. Ir-Rokna would have never been such an iconic pizzeria if it wasn’t for any one who has somehow crossed paths with us, whether it be the amazing staff members, suppliers and mostly our esteemed clientele. We are deeply saddened for such a short notice but only now this announcement could have been made. We love you all and from the bottom of our hearts thank you all so much, Rokna we love you and we shall miss you I know I will!”

Many were saddened to hear of the closing, saying they would miss the iconic pizzas. One customer summed up the overwhelming feeling: “Lovely memories, dates, family gatherings and pleasant evenings! So long!”
