Issa Ħassejtu Imma: Last Night’s 5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Widely Felt Across Malta

The latest 5.2 magnitude earthquake was widely felt across a multitude of localities across Malta, registered last night at around 8.55pm.

The University of Malta Seismic Monitoring and Research Group said that it exceeded 5.0 on the Richter scale, with various sources quoting the tremor’s magnitude as anything between 5.1 and 5.3.

Although the earthquake’s epicentre barely shifted, the latest tremor was one of the most felt across a number of localities, from Xlendi to Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.

It led people who have not felt any of the previous tremors to take to Facebook in panic, asking others if they felt the latest one.

While various localities reported the shaking, once again, the south of Malta seems to have been particularly hit.

This is of course due to the fact that, as was the case for all the other recent earthquakes, the epicentre was once again some 100 kilometres south of Malta, off the coast of Żurrieq.

Lovin Malta has reached out to the Seismic Research Group at the University to enquire about any recent insights regarding the tremors affecting the islands.
