Rare Two-Foot Jellyfish Spotted In Maltese Waters

Local marine photographer Pete Bullen has spotted an egg-yolk jellyfish chilling in the seas around our islands.
The jelly, Phacellophota camtschatica, can grow up to 60cm in diameter.
Usually bobbing along in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, the egg-yolk jellyfish is rarely seen in the Mediterranean.
Despite its intimidating size, the sting is relatively mild, and the creature usually feeds on smaller jellies.
The news was posted on local Facebook page ‘Spot The Jellyfish‘, which has so far documented just shy of 40 species of jellyfish in our seas.
