Celebrations for Pulse’s Junior College student council victory took a nasty turn last night, after a group of youths injured a woman police officer who had been sent to clamp down on the noise.

The police were sent on site outside the Junior College at around 1:45am after receiving a complaint about the noisy celebrations, and there they picked up an 18-year-old youth who was lighting a flare. However, as the police were escorting him to the the police car, a group of youths surrounded the car and started banging on it.

The female police sergeant stepped out of the car to try and calm the situation down, but the youths poured liquids onto and shoved her to the ground. In a statement, the police said the sergeant was seriously injured and had to be taken to Mater Dei for treatment.

Last night’s election saw Pulse return to the student council for a second consecutive year, seeing off rivals SDM by some 130 votes.
