‘Keep Jake’s Dream Alive’: The Annual Mater Dei Christmas Tree Set Up In Aid Of Abandoned Animals
Come one, come all! The Mater Dei Christmas tree has been unveiled to help animals in need and “keep Jake’s dream alive.”
For the third consecutive year of the “Gift with Love” initiative spearheaded by the Prime Minister’s wife, Lydia Abela, in collaboration with Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela, a Christmas tree was placed at the foyer of Mater Dei to help collect donations for animal shelters.
In attendance with Jake’s parents, Mariska and Josie Vella, the tree was donned with beautiful ornaments and lights, all with the purpose of having visitors leave their generous donations underneath.
“Jake, today we came to set up a Christmas tree in Mater Dei Hospital,” Jake’s father, Josie, said on Facebook, “We know that you were there among us. Whoever wishes to help can place items for abandoned animals by the entrance of Mater Dei.”
Lydia Abela continues showing solidarity and gratitude for the family. Just last September she nominated Jake for the prestigious Ġieħ ir-Repubblika award, to commemorate his inspiration across the island and beyond.
“In the name of Jake and the animals, we thank you all,” the post concluded.
This initiative is not the first and definitely won’t be the last in the series of good causes supported by the Vella family, especially when it comes to animals, a cause Jake absolutely adored.
