LESA To Be Made Responsible For Enforcing Parking Permits Through New Legal Notice

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri recently announced that LESA will soon be made responsible for enforcing parking permits issued by local councils.

Answering a parliamentary question tabled by PN MP Mark Anthony Sammut, the Minister responded with details of a new legal notice to be released in the coming days.

This comes as the parking permits typically used to keep spaces clear for cranes or lifters to use became unenforceable last summer, as LESA could not fine contraveners anymore, rendering the permits useless.

As it currently is, citizens are paying for the permit, only to then have cars park in the spaces anyway, with no authorities or government agencies taking responsibility for enforcement.

On Saturday, popular radio host Valentina Rossi spoke out on the ordeal, as the ongoing saga has affected citizens and businesses on a nationwide level.

A commentator also shared her similar experience with permits needed for a funeral last week, where people still ended up parking, arguing that they had the right to since permits don’t mean anything.
