Lifeless Body Of German Man Drowned In Dwejra, Gozo Found By His Son

A 68-year-old German man has died after he found himself in difficulties while swimming, the police have confirmed. The 68-year-old was certified dead on the spot when a medical team arrived in Dwejra, Gozo, at around 5pm today, after receiving an emergency call for assistance.

His son had reportedly become worried after his father did not return from a swim after an hour and a half in Dwejra Bay, and asked a nearby diving school for help. His father’s body was found floating in the sea by a diver from this school, who helped carry the body back to shore.

A medical team from Gozo General Hospital were on scene to assist. Magistrate P. Coppini has appointed various experts to aid in the inquiry into the death.

The German man’s death comes just one day after a Dutch man was killed in a freak jet ski accident in St George’s Bay, St Julian’s.
